What is a Domain
A domain, in the context of the internet, refers to a unique address used to identify a website. It is essentially the string of characters that people type into a web browser to access a particular site. For example, in the web address “www.example.com,” “example.com” is the domain.
Domains are structured in a hierarchy. The rightmost part, such as ".com," is the top-level domain (TLD), while the part to its left is the second-level domain (SLD), which is typically the name of the website or organization. Together, they create a full domain name, which must be unique across the internet.
In a broader context, the term "domain" can also refer to an area of control or knowledge, such as a field of study or a specific sector in business. However, when people talk about domains online, they are usually referring to web addresses.
